Dark Souls II is unforgiving. It’s a dark, depressing, painfully hard, bizarre, atmospheric and cryptic world. But at the same time it shines nevertheless. You will die and die and die. And then die again. Until you learn the patterns and somehow make it. And that is a truly beautiful moment that almost no other game (excluding From Software) will give you. At the moment I don’t think I will ever beat this but I’m sure I’ll come back again and again and again.
